A 22-year-old dog has officially been named the Guinness World Records’ “oldest dog living”.

Pooch Gino, who hails from California, was born on September 24, 2000. He was adopted by his current owner, Alex Wolf, in 2002, from Colorado’s Humane Society of Boulder Valley shelter.

Alex, 40, who was a sophomore at the University of Colorado Boulder at the time, said that Gino’s longevity was a result of a healthy, balanced diet, good veterinary care and having a zest for life, according to the “Today” show .

He said: “I give him all the credit. He’s gotten a lot of love, and I think he’s just a strong dog. He’s been there every step of the way. I’m so glad we got him. He’s the best.”
